This module aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of grapevine biology, soil science, and plant–environment interactions. It develops essential practical vineyard management skills through hands-on training in operations such as winter pruning, canopy management, spray scheduling, under-vine weeding, while introducing the environmental, physiological, and climatic factors influencing vine growth and productivity.
The module also establishes professional vineyard working practices, including health and safety, regulatory awareness, standard operating procedures, and accurate record keeping. Students are introduced to the financial and operational considerations of vineyard establishment and management and are supported in developing the ability to interpret observations and data, to make informed, sustainable, and economically viable viticultural recommendations.
