CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)

The Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) develops the essential supervisory skills required by construction site supervisors, gangers and foremen. It focuses on effective communication, workforce management and the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of appropriate health and safety control measures on site.

Course Content

The SSSTS training course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage health and safety within their supervisory role.

Delegates will develop an understanding of the key health and safety challenges within the construction industry, how health and safety legislation is structured, and how their supervisory responsibilities contribute to the overall management of site safety. The course also covers the importance of risk assessments and method statements, as well as how to effectively deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings.

Delegates will also explore the principles of proactive and reactive monitoring and understand how both approaches contribute to maintaining safe working practices and preventing accidents.

  • Construction accidents, including types, causes and prevention
  • Relevant health and safety regulations
  • Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs) and guidance
  • Working at height
  • Demolition, noise and vibration
  • Occupational health
  • Fire safety awareness
  • Control and management of contractors
  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Site inductions and toolbox talks
  • Proactive and reactive health and safety monitoring

 

Entry Requirements:

Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level.

Who is this course for?

The SSSTS course is designed for first-line managers, team leaders, foremen, gangers, and supervisors who have, or are about to take on, supervisory responsibilities. It provides delegates with an understanding of their legal duties and responsibilities, enabling them to effectively instruct, supervise and monitor work activities while promoting and maintaining high standards of health, safety and welfare on construction sites.

How will I be assessed?

Delegates are assessed throughout the course through their participation in individual and group activities, including group exercises and practical discussions.

At the end of the course, delegates must complete a 30-minute, 25-question multiple-choice examination.

Successful candidates will receive the CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Certificate.
