The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) provides comprehensive training for site managers, supervisors and those with responsibility for managing health, safety and welfare on construction sites. The course develops the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage site safety and meet legal and industry requirements.
The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a five-day course designed for site managers, project managers, senior supervisors and others with responsibility for managing health and safety on construction sites.
The course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage health, safety and welfare, while understanding their legal responsibilities and ensuring compliance with current UK legislation and industry requirements.
What Will You Learn on the SMSTS Course?
During this five-day CITB SMSTS course, delegates will develop the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage health, safety and welfare on construction sites.
Key areas covered include:
- UK health and safety legislation and legal responsibilities
- Accident prevention and incident investigation
- Risk assessments and method statements – understanding, implementing and managing them effectively
- CDM Regulations (Construction Design and Management)
- Occupational health and wellbeing on construction sites
- Effective management of health, safety and welfare across the site
- Working at height and relevant safety requirements
- Site hazards, fire prevention and emergency controls

Entry Requirements:
The are no formal pre requisites for this course however:
A good understanding of written and spoken English is essential, currently be in or be progressing into a management role & have experience of working in construction.
How will I be assessed?
Delegates are assessed throughout the course through their participation in individual and group activities, including group exercises and practical discussions.
100% attendance is mandatory
Complete and pass a multiple choice exam at the end of the course.
