(Animal Studies) Management of Animal Collections field trip to Tilgate

Trip Location: Tilgate Park

Cost: The cost will be £17 a student.

Trip Location: Tilgate Park https://tilgatezoo.co.uk/

Date: Monday 19th October 2026, 12:00-17:00
Brief bio: As part of the Management of Animal Collections module, we will be visiting Tilgate Zoo, in Crawley, where we will be shown what goes into effective enclosure design and how enrichment is used in maintaining species welfare. We will have a brief enclosure appraisal activity, looking at meerkats and the serval as examples, with a member of the zoo team, followed by a Q&A. You will then be given free time to independently explore the other enclosures at the zoo, so that you can gather sufficient data for your first module assessment. Tilgate Park is a unique zoo because it is run by the council with a priority being accessibility for local people. Given the local nature of the zoo, students will make their own way to and from the trip, but must inform Will via email first. For the majority of the group, we will be travelling from campus around 12:10pm and travelling back to College by 17:00pm. If you rely on the College buses, please ensure you have arranged suitable transport to get home from the campus. Please contact Will if you have any concerns about being able to get home, following the trip.
